| DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH |
| AIM |
| To make students speak English with family, friends and society. |
| |
| There are many ways to teach a language |
One popular way is CLT. CLT is Communicative Language Teaching (CLT)
It enables students to communicate in the target language through a series of activities that mimic real-life interactions. |
| TEACHER-CENTERED |
- In the traditional classroom, the teacher is in charge and controls the learning of the students (Ss).
- The teacher gives knowledge; the students receive knowledge.
- The teacher speaks; the students listen.
- The teacher is active; the students are passive.
|
| CLT- learner centered |
- In CLT class room teacher serves more as a FACILITATOR, setting up activities for students to communicate in the target language.
- In other words, sets up pre, during and post teaching activities to facilitate communication among the Ss.
|
| |
| CLT is the best pracice to enhance the functional need of target language |
- It best predicts moment to moment communication in the target language, i.e. English.
- Ss in CLT are much more active learners.
- The amt of Ss talk-time in the class increases, while the amt of ‘teacher talk time’ decreases.
|
| |
| Conclusion |
The common feature of these activities is that they require students to communicate in the target language and complete the activity.
At the end of the day we are only sensitizing the students to skills like listening, speaking, reading, writing, communication, body language, interpersonal relationships, creative, geographical, scientific, aesthetic and a range of global possessions for them to set off into the world with great success.
